The point here is that I tried to wiki it an hour or so ago and got interrupted by the phone and a couple of other things, then just went back to reading.
My goal is to keep reading and not cheat, so I am going to tell you what is so great so far but if any of you have read it, try not to ruin the surprises.
It's called Pieces of My Sister's Life by Elizabeth Joy Arnold. It has been in my room for at least six months and may be listed in my half.com listings (potential shoppers: You snooze, you lose!!).
It is about twin sisters Kerry and Eve. It starts out when they are little girls and their mom has abandoned the family, leaving the girls with just their dad, to grow up in Rhode Island. Of course there is a boy, Justin, who lives next door and he is three years older. He makes up fairy tales for the girls and they become a close trio. Both girls develop crushes on him and vie for his attention.
I don't want to ruin this for anyone nor do I want to transcribe the entirety of what I have read so far but...The dad dies when they are sixteen and one twin is pretty cold hearted (Eve) and implements a plan for the twins to move in with Justin's family so she can marry him. The story is told from the point of view of the other twin (Kerry). The first chapter gives some hints as to what will happen 13 years later: Kerry who now is a dance instructor for senior citizens and also works a telemarketer, comes home to a message on her machine from Justin (a very successful children's writer) who is married to her twin, Eve, with whom Kerry hasn't spoken in the last 13 years.
The message is simply that Kerry's sister is dying and that Kerry needs to come back to Rhode Island...
Page 70 is in the middle of chapter 5 and Eve and Kerry are still 16, living with Justin's parents and Eve is about to get Leslie, Justin's high-schooler-almost-fiancee, out of the picture. I'm just about to find out how she does it. Evil bitch.
